Electric strike
An electric strike replaces the metal plate in the door frame. When it gets the signal, it releases so the door can be pushed or pulled open. When there's no signal, the door locks normally. Electric strikes are the most common way to add buzz-in or card access to an existing door.
Magnetic lock (mag lock)
A mag lock is a strong magnet at the top of the door that holds it shut while it has power. Because it holds the door with power, it must always have a safe way out, such as an exit button or motion sensor, and it usually must release when the fire alarm goes off.

Fail-safe or fail-secure?
- Fail-safe: the door unlocks if the power goes out.
- Fail-secure: the door stays locked from outside if the power goes out. People inside can still get out.
Which one you need depends on the door and the code requirements. We'll help you pick.
Exit buttons and motion sensors
The button or sensor by the door that releases the lock when someone leaves is called a request-to-exit device. We repair and replace push buttons, touch sensors and motion sensors.
Common problems we fix
- The door buzzes but won't open
- The strike releases, but the door is stuck against it
- The mag lock doesn't hold the door shut
- The exit button doesn't release the door
- A failing power supply
What we handle
We install, replace, adjust and repair strikes, mag locks and exit devices on your doors, and work with the access control system you already have. Planning a brand-new, building-wide wired system? We'll tell you up front which parts we handle and when you'll need an electrical contractor.
Questions we hear a lot
Our door buzzes but won't open. What's wrong?
Often the door is pressing against the strike, or the strike needs adjusting or replacing. We can usually find the cause in one visit.
Can you add an electric strike to our existing door?
On many doors, yes. We'll check the frame, the lock and how the door is used.
Do mag locks need an exit button?
Yes. Mag locks need a safe way out, and most must release with the fire alarm. We'll make sure your door can always be opened from inside.
