Choosing a good lock
- Look for a Grade 1 or Grade 2 deadbolt. These ratings mean the lock passed strength and durability tests.
- The strike plate matters. Long screws that reach the wall framing make a door much harder to kick in.
- Double-cylinder deadbolts (a key on both sides) can slow you down in a fire. We'll talk through whether one makes sense for your door.

Older homes
Many older Bay Area homes still have original mortise locks. Often we can repair or rekey them and keep the look of your door, instead of drilling new holes.
Questions we hear a lot
Can I buy my own lock and have you install it?
Yes. If you'd like, call us first and we'll make sure it fits your door.
Can you make all my new locks use one key?
Yes, if they're the same brand and key type, we can key them alike.
Do you fix sliding door locks?
Yes, including multipoint locks and latches that don't catch anymore.
