Types of car keys
- Metal key: older cars. Just needs to be cut.
- Chip key (transponder): a small chip in the key talks to the car. It must be cut and programmed.
- Remote head key: key and lock buttons in one piece.
- Flip key: the blade folds into the fob.
- Smart key: stays in your pocket. Used with push-to-start cars.
Get a spare before you need it
Making a spare key is much easier while you still have one that works. If you're down to your last key, now is a good time to call.
Ignition problems
If your key won't turn in the ignition, it may be a worn key or a worn ignition. We can check both. See ignition installation and repair.
What we'll need
- Your ID
- Your registration or title
- The year, make and model
- Where the car is parked
Some newer vehicles can only be done by the dealer. Call with your year, make and model and we'll tell you honestly.
Questions we hear a lot
I lost all my car keys. Can you still make one?
In many cases, yes. We'll need proof that you own the car.
Can you program a fob I bought online?
Sometimes. Many online fobs don't work or can't be programmed. Call us before you buy one.
Do you come to me?
Yes. We're mobile and come to where your car is parked.
