Signs of an ignition problem
- The key won't turn, or only turns when you jiggle it
- The key gets stuck in the ignition
- The key turns too easily or comes out while driving
- The ignition was damaged in a theft attempt
Is it the key or the ignition?
A worn key can feel exactly like a bad ignition. We check the key first. Sometimes a new key is all you need.
Repair, rekey or replace
- Repair: fix worn parts inside the ignition.
- Rekey: set the ignition to work with a new key, or to match your door key.
- Replace: install a new ignition cylinder when the old one is damaged.
What we'll need
- Your ID
- Your registration or title
- The year, make and model
- Where the car is parked
Some newer vehicles' ignitions are tied to the car's computer and can only be done by the dealer. Call with your year, make and model and we'll tell you.
Questions we hear a lot
My steering wheel is locked and the key won't turn. What do I do?
Gently turn the steering wheel left and right while turning the key. That often releases it. If it doesn't, call us.
Can you make the ignition match my door key?
Often, yes. We can rekey the ignition so one key works for both.
Do I need to tow the car?
No. We come to where your car is parked.
