When to rekey
- You just moved in and don't know who has copies
- You lost your keys, or they were stolen
- A roommate, tenant or ex moved out
- After a break-in
- After contractors or cleaners had keys
- You're tired of carrying a different key for every door
One key for every door
If your front door, back door and garage locks take the same type of key, we can rekey them so one key opens all of them. Locksmiths call this "keyed alike."
Rekey or replace?
If your locks work well, rekeying is usually all you need. If a lock is worn, loose or not strong enough, it may be time for a new lock. We'll tell you honestly which makes sense.
Questions we hear a lot
Is rekeying as safe as new locks?
For keeping old keys out, yes. The old keys won't work anymore. If you want a stronger lock, that's when replacing makes sense.
Can every lock be rekeyed?
Most home locks can. Very worn or low-quality locks are sometimes better replaced.
Should landlords rekey between tenants?
It's a smart habit. It protects your new tenant and you.
